L-3 Link Completes Update of Lufthansa Flight Training A380 Simulator

CRAWLEY, United Kingdom, February 27, 2013 – L-3 Link Simulation & Training (L-3 Link) announced today that its Crawley, U.K.-based operation has completed the updating of a Lufthansa Flight Training A380 Full Flight Simulator (FFS) to the latest Airbus 1.3 product baseline. In addition, the Luftfahrt-Bundesamt, Germany’s national civil aviation authority, has recertified the A380 FFS to support pilot training at the Lufthansa Flight Training facility in Frankfurt.

Updates made by L-3 Link focused on the simulator’s aircraft systems, avionics and flight aero data. The updates enable the simulator to operate at the same standard 1.3 product baseline as Lufthansa’s Airbus A380 fleet of aircraft.

“We are very pleased to have had the opportunity to update the A380 Full Flight Simulator to match the capability of Lufthansa’s existing fleet,” said Mark Gasson, vice president of L-3 Link UK. “We look forward to continuing to provide Lufthansa Flight Training with tailored customer support services that help ensure simulator availability and low life-cycle cost.”

“Although the schedule was challenging and milestones were tight, we achieved our ready-for-training date on time with proven quality,” said Wieland Heine, project manager and simulator development engineer of Lufthansa Flight Training. “The cooperative support from L-3 Link during this update effort has produced an optimum result.”
