SimuSphereTM is a new scalable visual system display developed
by Link Simulation and Training that is being used on three fighter simulator
programs today.
Designed as a partial
dodecahedron dome, SimuSphereTM makes use of
advancements in projection technology to provide optimum air-to-air and
air-to-ground training.
Each of the display's screen facets is the same general size and shape. Through
this design approach screen images have a constant brightness and resolution.
This feature improves the ability of pilots to track an air target or ground
feature around the dome during a complex flight maneuver.
In fact, SimuSphere's displayed images provide the highest resolution available
from a single projector and image generator per screen.
Depending on visual system training requirements, SimuSphereTM can be
configured with three, five, seven or nine facets to meet a customer's desired
visual system field-of-view. A nine facet design provides a full field-of-view
for most applications and customers can expand three, five and seven facet
configurations to meet emerging training requirements.
SimuSphereTM has been integrated on F/A-18 Tactical Operational Flight
Trainers that have been delivered to the U.S. Navy. The display system also is
being used on F-22 Full Mission Trainers, which will support training tasks ranging
from formation flight to air refueling to within visual range combat. In addition,
a three-panel SimuSphereTM visual display system is being integrated on
an F-16C Block 52+ Aircrew Training Device that will be delivered to the Hellenic
Air Force in 2004.
