NEW YORK, NY, May 16, 2001 - L-3 Communications (NYSE:LLL) today announced that AMI
Instruments, Inc. has produced an initial U.S. Air Force A-10 Full Mission Trainer simulated
cockpit validation model and is proceeding with production of five additional A-10 units.
AMI, a wholly owned subsidiary of L-3 Communication's Link Simulation and Training division,
is building the A-10 Full Mission Trainer cockpits under a subcontract from Lockheed Martin
Services, Inc.
"These high fidelity A-10 simulated cockpits, which will help bring the full mission
trainers concurrent with recent modifications made to the aircraft, will provide ease of
access for future simulator maintenance," said Maurice Arnott, AMI's president. "The A-10
simulated cockpits are being produced with all avionics panels, instruments, engine and
flying controls. Once completed, the A-10 cockpit assemblies will be integrated with other
trainer components at an Air Force facility."
In addition to the A-10 program, a two-seat simulated cockpit for a F/A-18 Tactical
Operational Flight Trainer is currently under production at AMI's Tulsa, Okla. plant and
later will be integrated by Link prior to delivery to the U.S. Navy. In recent years, AMI
has helped meet Navy flight training requirements through the production of 14 F/A-18 and
eight T-45 simulated cockpit assemblies.
AMI's capabilities include the design and production of simulated hardware, including
cockpit displays, instruments, avionic panels, interface rack assemblies and complete fighter
type cockpits. This product line duplicates the crew-observable, physical, functional and
performance characteristics of a specific aircraft's actual cockpit operational equipment.
