LEXINGTON, Mass., May 5, 1999 - Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTNA, RTNB) has been
awarded a $3.6 million dollar one-year contract by Lockheed Martin Skunk Works to
provide contractor logistics support and engineering services for an F-117 weapon
systems trainer and one integrated support facility. The contract, which has seven
additional one-year options, could grow to nearly $28 million.
"The contractor logistics support and engineering support services we will be
providing in the coming years will ensure concurrency between the F-117 weapon
systems trainer, the program's integrated support facility and the latest upgrades
being made to the aircraft," said Gary Nesta, Raytheon Systems Company's director of
flight simulation. "This level of concurrency is essential because all F-117 pilots
must be trained and certified in the simulator prior to ever flying the aircraft."
The F-117 weapon systems trainer, located at Holloman Air Force Base, N.M., is
a high-fidelity training device that provides selected safety-of-flight training.
In addition, pilots can hone their navigation, tanker rendezvous, refueling, target
identification and weapons deployment skills during simulated missions.
Raytheon's Binghamton, N.Y. facility is home to the F-117 integrated support
facility, which is used to design, verify and test upgrades that need to be made to
the weapon systems trainer to stay concurrent with aircraft modifications.
