NEW YORK, NY, March 26, 2001 -- L-3 Communications (NYSE:LLL) today announced that its Link Simulation and Training division has been awarded an indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (ID/IQ) contract award by the U.S. Army's Simulation, Training and Instrumentation Command (STRICOM). This award is part of the Army's STRICOM Omnibus Contract (STOC) to provide virtual domain simulation of actual warfighting equipment, systems and munitions.

The programs awarded under STOC will support the capability to deliver individual, crew and collective training, testing, experimentation and rehearsal in a specific environment. By September 2008 all STOC task orders will be awarded to industry contractors.

"Link is proud to be chosen as a contractor eligible to compete on the Army's future virtual training programs," said Jim Dunn, president of Link Simulation and Training. "This contract vehicle has been designed to reduce acquisition lead times and costs while maximizing the value to our Army customer and warfighters. Consequently, both the Army and industry will benefit through this new means of acquiring and developing simulators, training systems and simulated munitions."

Today's announcement only addresses the STOC program's virtual training domain. Under the STOC ID/IQ contract structure, L-3 Communications also is participating in the program's constructive training, live training and test and instrumentation domains. Combined, these four STOC business domains could result in awards to the defense industry totaling approximately $4 billion.
