NEW YORK, NY, February 19, 2004 -- L-3 Communications (NYSE: LLL) today announced that its Link Simulation and Training division has been awarded a $9.9 million contract option from Boeing (NYSE: BA) to upgrade an F/A-18C Weapons Tactics Trainer (WTT) currently fielded at Naval Air Station Oceana, VA. Combined with the initial program award Link received in 2003 to build new and modify existing F/A-18 trainers, the value of the contract has grown to $43.9 million.

Under this new contract option, Link will upgrade the F/A-18C WTT 40-foot dome to an F/A-18E/F aircraft configuration and integrate it with a new technology visual system. The advanced visual system solution will use Link's personal computer-based SimuView™ image generation system, a state-of-the-art target projection system and an advanced laser projection system developed by Link team member Jenoptik LDT GmbH. The F/A-18E/F WTT will continue to afford aircrews a 360º field-of-view.

"Award of this contract option will enable Link to upgrade the second of two F/A-18 dome trainers at NAS Oceana, enabling these legacy trainers to benefit from recent advancements in visual system technologies and become concurrent with the advanced Super Hornet platform," said John McNellis, president of Link Simulation and Training. "All of the newly built and upgraded F/A-18 trainers that are part of the program's initial and option contracts support full mission training aimed at enhancing mission readiness."

In addition to the upgrade to the first F/A-18E/F WTT, the initial contract awarded to Link earlier in 2003 also calls for building one new F/A-18E/F Tactical Operational Flight Trainer (TOFT) and upgrading an existing F/A-18E/F TOFT with the company's SimuSphere™ visual system display.

The two F/A-18E/F WTT domes will be networked to the new and upgraded F/A-18E/F TOFTs. During networked training exercises high fidelity audio communication among all pilots, weapon system officers and instructors will enhance training realism.
