NEW YORK, NY, January 18, 2005 -- L-3 Communications (NYSE: LLL) today announced that its Link Simulation and Training (Link) division has received an initial $525,000 award and $20 million indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (ID/IQ) contract modification from the U.S. Naval Air Systems Command to provide contractor logistics support services for the U.S. Navy's C-40A Clipper aircraft fleet.

The initial contract covers a two-month program transition period that concluded at the end of 2004. The contract modification calls for Link and its program teammates to provide fleet maintenance throughout 2005 for the Navy C-40A platforms. Total value of the program, which includes four one-year contract options, could grow to approximately $100 million, depending on Navy decisions impacting the number of additional operating sites and increases in the C-40A fleet size.

Link will provide program management and overall logistics support to the fleet of C-40A aircraft that are a derivative of Boeing's 737-700. To support the program, which today consists of seven aircraft flown by the U.S. Naval Reserve to provide all of the Navy's worldwide in-theater medium and heavy airlift, Link has contracted with AAR Aircraft Services of Oklahoma City, OK, to provide site support, inventory management and depot-level scheduled maintenance. In addition, Link has contracted with American Airlines in Tulsa, OK, to conduct engine repair and overhaul services for the C-40A fleet.

“This award further solidifies Link's support to the naval aviation community and complements our current technical support services capability,“ said David Williams, vice president of training services for Link Simulation and Training. “Along with our teammates, AAR Aircraft Services and American Airlines, we look forward to assuming the responsibility for keeping the C-40A Clipper operationally ready to meet the Navy's critical logistics support requirements.“

Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City, OK, is home to Link's C-40A program office and the site where depot-level maintenance will be conducted. AAR Aircraft Services personnel at Naval Air Station Fort Worth Joint Reserve Base in Fort Worth, TX, and Naval Air Station Jacksonville in Jacksonville, FL, will provide contractor logistics support for C-40A aircraft that operate from each of these naval air stations.
