F-22 Pilot Training Devices

The F-22 Raptor – the only fifth generation operational fighter aircraft – flys complex, integrated missions ranging from single ship operation to multi-ship actions. In support of this key U.S. Air Force platform, L-3 Link Simulation & Training currently is producing three types of F-22 pilot training devices.

F-22 Full Mission Trainers developed by L-3 Link simulate the Raptor’s entire flight envelope. Each trainer is integrated with a SimuSphere® visual system display that provides 360° field-of-view. Pilots can practice tasks including formation flight, air refueling, takeoffs and landings, emergency procedures and weapons delivery.

The F-22 Weapons Tactics Trainer is an intermediate level training device that provides pilots with extensive procedural training to enhance aircraft systems operation. Supported by a high fidelity tactical environment, the trainer provides pilots with simulated controls and displays representing the main F-22 aircraft instrument panel. In addition to enabling pilots to practice individual and team weapon systems employment, the weapons tactics trainer can be used as an instructional system or mission generation system.

The F-22 Egress Procedures Trainer enables pilots to perform tasks ranging from cockpit safety and ejection seat inspections to ejection and canopy separation procedures.

In addition to delivery of the F-22 pilot training devices, L-3 Link is responsible for networking full mission trainers and weapons tactics trainers to support multi-ship flight training.
