Long a supplier of F/A-18 flight simulators, the latest generation F/A-18
Tactical Operational Flight Trainer (TOFT) is integrated with Link Simulation & Training's
SimuSphereTM visual system display.
SimuSphere™
is a dodecahedron-shaped visual system display that provides equally high visual scene
brightness and resolution across all of its same-sized pentagonal facets. F/A-18 TOFTs have
been delivered to the U.S. Navy in three, five, seven and nine facet SimuSphere visual display
configurations. F/A-18 TOFTs also are integrated with Link's SimuView™ personal computer image
generation system, which provides both out-the-window and sensor imagery.
This trainer uses the same proven core software as previously used on the F/A-18 Weapons
Tactics Trainer built by Link.
The F/A-18 TOFT trains pilots in field and carrier takeoffs and landings, low altitude flight,
air-to-air and air-to-ground weapons delivery, electronic countermeasures and emergency procedures.
As Navy pilots develop and refine their air-to-air combat skills on the trainer, the offensive
and defensive skill level of the adversaries can be varied. In support of Hornet training systems
that will be delivered to the U.S. Navy and Canadian Air Forces, combat training realism is being
extended by networking F/A-18 TOFTs to enable multiple aircrews to conduct tactical combat training
against common, simulated threats.
