F-16 Unit Training Device

LF-16 Unit Training Device (UTD) simulators today are providing continuation training for U.S. Air Force and Air National Guard F-16 fighter pilots, in addition to pilots for several international customers flying the F-16 Fighting Falcon.

Since 1996 Link Simulation & Training has delivered over 80 F-16 UTDs to its combined U.S. and international customer base.

In 2001 the F-16 UTD program reached a special milestone when collectively the trainers reached one million hours of operation in support of U.S. Air Force and Air National Guard pilot training.

F-16 UTDs -- which have been delivered in Block 15, 25, 30, 40/42, 50/52 and 52+ configurations -- support training in emergency procedures, instrument flight and air-to-air and air-to-ground combat training within a dense threat environment. In addition, pilots are able to practice acquiring and identifying targets and accurately delivering weapons under a full range of weather conditions at any time of day.

An added benefit the F-16 UTD brings is its small footprint, which enables the simulator and its supporting computer equipment to be housed in a standard squadron office environment.

The F-16 UTD also has proven to be scalable, allowing for cost-effective upgrades to its visual display system. Some F-16 UTDs that had a single flat screen to display out-the-window computer generated imagery have been upgraded to visual system displays that provide pilots with a 360° degree field-of-view of terrain and sky.

Link also provides on-call contractor logistics support for F-16 UTDs, which have demonstrated a reliability factor of over 98 percent.

Under separate contracts, Link also is delivering or has delivered F-16 UTDs to the air forces of South Korea, Bahrain, Jordan, Egypt, and Greece.
