Link Simulation & Training, which delivered B-2 Aircrew Training Devices to
the U.S. Air Force in the early 1990s, continues to support the stealthy bomber
program today by providing all contractor-supplied services and product trainer
upgrades. This work is being performed under the B-2 Training System Contractor
Logistics Support contract.
Under this indefinite
delivery/indefinite quantity contract that runs through 2008, Link has been providing
upgrades to three B-2A Weapon System Trainers and a B-2A Mission Trainer installed at
Whiteman Air Force Base, Mo.
The most recent trainer concurrency modification focused on simulating the aircraft's
new LINK-16 Center Instrument Display/In-flight Replanning system. The Link-16
Center Instrument Display/In-flight Replanning system provides technical and
operational improvements to the B-2A's tactical data link capabilities.
This effort is one part of an overall training system modification that will provide
training device and curriculum updates to support the next B-2 Multi-Stage Improvement
Program aircraft upgrade.
The B-2A Mission Trainer is designed to teach the complex right seat functions for this
two-pilot aircraft, focusing on the mastery of complex onboard offensive and defensive
systems.
The B-2A Weapon System Trainer is a full-motion, high fidelity simulator that provides
out-the-window visual scenes and full simulation of all onboard systems. The trainer
allows B-2A pilots to become proficient in the aircraft's complex onboard systems and
in operating its weapon systems while flying simulated combat scenarios literally
anywhere in the world.
