AMI Instruments, a division of L-3 Communications
Corporation (formerly AMI Instruments, Inc.,), was formed
in 1981. The company was established to produce high-quality,
reliable and well-supported equipment for commercial flight
simulators and other special applications.
AMI grew rapidly and within five years entered the military
training equipment market. Today this business segment accounts
for a large part of AMI's business.
AMI increased its product line to include control panels,
displays, engine and flight controls, complete cockpit assemblies
and most other hardware for training devices from submarines
to surface vehicles, power generating plants and aircraft
of all types.
U.S. military budget cutbacks in the early 1990s prompted AMI to look offshore for business
and the foreign training equipment market was successfully penetrated.
AMI's effort gained the attention of US Department of Commerce
representatives and in 1995 the company was awarded the President's
"E" Award for Excellence in Exporting.
Consolidation in the defense industry saw ownership of AMI
move between Rediffusion Simulation, Hughes Training, Raytheon
Company and L-3 Communications. AMI's legal named changed
in November 2003 from AMI Instruments, Inc., to AMI Instruments,
a division of L-3 Communications Corporation.
Today, AMI's customer base for commercial and military products
is worldwide. AMI is producing hardware for most of the advanced
US military flight simulation training programs. In addition,
AMI is supplying the global commercial airline market with
superior simulator hardware for major commercial training
equipment programs.
AMI's experience in producing high quality equipment for
training applications is being applied to operational equipment
requirements. AMI has engineering design and manufacturing
facilities to address a wide range of development and production
equipment. UAVs, UGVs, robots and other assemblies requiring
high precision production are well within AMI's capabilities
and we will continue to expand our product line to support
future prime contractor requirements.
